Launching PAWPA with Kuwaiti Participation

The Jordanian capital, Amman, the Association of Arab Women Doctors, during the third Jordanian Doctor Conference during the period from 26 to 27 October 2023 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, with the participation of medical delegations from various Arab countries, including Kuwait.

This distinguished scientific event enjoys the participation of the British Royal College of Physicians and the Mediterranean Cancer Society and was organized in cooperation with the Jordanian Medical Council, the Royal Medical Services, medical colleges in Jordanian universities, and the Jordanian health and scientific sectors.

It was announced during the inauguration ceremony of the Arab Women Doctors Association that Kuwait will host the Arab Doctor Conference in its second edition in December 2024.

Consultant in General Surgery, Obesity Surgery and Endoscopy at the Amiri Hospital, Dr. Asmaa Al-Rashed, said that hosting the State of Kuwait for the upcoming conference is an honor and an initiative to enhance opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experiences between male and female doctors in Arab countries. Hosting the conference also provides opportunities for scientific and professional advancement and development and empowerment of female doctors in the Arab world.

Al-Rashed also praised the pioneering initiative of the conference idea and the establishment of the Association of Arab Women Doctors, led by Dr. Maysam Akroush and a group of the best Jordanian female doctors and doctors from the Gulf countries and the Arab world, which includes Kuwait.

Al-Rashed stated that the association aims to empower and enhance the professional, academic, and societal role of the Arab doctor, and this initiative is consistent with the recommendations of the United Nations for its fifth goal in its 2030 vision to empower women, which the State of Kuwait and many Gulf states and the Arab world have signed.

The Kuwaiti delegation included various medical and surgical specialties, as Dr. Masouma Al-Ali, internal medicine and gastroenterology consultant at the Amiri Hospital, Dr. Hoda Al-Duwaisan, family medicine consultant and head of the Yarmouk Health Center, and Dr. Saja Sorour, Head of the Organ Surgery Department at the Hamed Al-Issa Center, and Organ Transplant Specialist Dr. Gilan Mustafa, in a number of lectures and scientific sessions held at the conference, which were about obesity and its treatments, organ donation, primary care, and mental health.

It also mentioned the participation of some Palestinian female doctors from Gaza in the conference through a recorded video that was shown during the opening ceremony. The spirit of human interdependence and solidarity was embodied in the conference among the participants regarding the catastrophe suffered by the people of Gaza.

In conclusion, Al-Rashed praised the tireless efforts in preparing the conference and establishing the Arab Women Doctors Association and expressed her thanks for the generous invitation, wishing everyone success and continued giving.
